Dear Reader... This is an interpretive series of pages taken from the personal journal of Mr. JH Thomas. For over 25 years Mr. Thomas hiked, explored and photographed the limestone canyons and vicinity of northern Arizona. As a result he recorded several scientific "firsts" in archaeology regarding the activities of the ancient people we now call Sinagua. Reconstructing the Ruin Wupatki... with the purpose of serving as a model for interpretive oil paintings. Above is a simplified animation superimposing an interpretation of the past construction over present day stabilized ruin walls.
The first side effect of this research and graphic experiments is this poster.

Is this what Wupatki Looked like? (updated 12/02/01)
I've projected the 'volume" of each room into a solid object and joined them according to the floor plan I've been provided. My first impression is a surprise. My notes indicate that some of the rooms were three and four stories high, even after being built high upon the huge stone boulder beneath the entire main room block. This is taller than I expected. I've included one of my research photos below to make me realize that these people DID have the capacity to build very high towers.
Time to visit with my consultants!!!
Here's a contemporary example of a tall multi-story pueblo of that time period organically attached to existing rocks.
Is this an example of how Wupatki's tallest room was built?
November 25, 2001 Update...
Quick 3D animation of early version (south room block only) of 3D volume. Very primitive.
Much revision still needed, but this does provide an early view of where I'm headed.
