The Emergence Prophecy Painting

After two years effort Thomas completed this "innerscape" painting, an allegory composition that represents many of his subjective experiences during his 25 years of archaeological explorations in northern Arizona. By "innerscape" he means reference to symbols that might appear in a dream, all based upon conscious daytime experiences now in memory. Obviously this scene is at night under a full moon standing at the base of a Sinagua ruin made of volcanic basalt stones, exploiting natural caves in the escarpment. In this presentation he's made the basalt wall in the shape of a human face, staring out onto the scene. He's done this because he unconsciously believes that the ancient sites remain sentient, demanding respect and courtesy while we visit and study them today. The night blooming Sacred Datura flower is of course the shaman's tool for visions. It seems to be in concert with the moon. He has observed the blossoms open just before the moon comes up, releasing a wonderful lemon scent at the last moment. And, finally, he constantly observe owls on his hikes. In the Spring of 2006 he watched six baby owls in their nests, visiting them at a distance each week until they fledged. This is another painting that captures the subjective portion of his work.
This painting also became a prophecy of many intimate experiences in 2008.

This close up reveals the "ghost" of the Sinagua man who is standing in front of the archaeological ruins, probably representing Thomas' idea of a previous life.
