The Fun of Composing a Scene using 3D Clip Models

This little exercise, one amongst many I've done, is fun, easy and relatively quick to do. It involves utilizing 3D material already made and readily available from a myriad of sources, like clip art. There are many positive benefits from playing with software this way. One, it helps you learn the programs better while making somethng. And two, I've used it to quickly create illustrations for other uses.

In this case I'm going to create a scene without leaving the program Carrara, using only objects, shaders and elements that come with the program. Here's how...

~~~~~~~~
First, we're going to open a new preset file in Carrara using the scene wizard.
Picture1
We choose a basic terrain. The scene OPENs within a VIEW window in a preset perspective. Elements are primitive, made of polygons and flat colors.
pic02
We add a sunset sky from the choices available and do a quick low resolution render to make sure that it is what we're expecting.
pic03
Next, we add a water plane. By raising and/or lowering it we achieve this bay.
pic04
From the objects browser we install a stone archway. This will crop our view.
pic05
Now we have a "framed" perspective within which we'll add more clip art props.
pic06
We find a nicely built old style Italian ship and place it the water.
pic07
Some sea gulls are added to sky and we do another quick test render.
pic08
It dawns on me at this point that I'm building a perfect mood piece for an Italian restaurant. Having been a mural artist early in my career I realize that this is what I've done. What a perfect solution for mural design and it creates archive art that can be used by the restaurant on menus and other items. It's only natural then that we add a bottle of burgundy wine.
pic09
By adding some plant foliage in the forground we have a complete composition.
pic10
There, complete, and it was all done without leaving the program. Composition and lighting make it an original even though we "borrowed" pre-modeled items.
These exercises are fun and they teach you the software program while you play. And, in cases like this, you might create something you can use.
